Diamond Ring Question: Hi,

I would like to know what is the possible worth of a platinum and 2.5k v v s diamond solitaire ring, as I would like to list the ring on eBay but do not have any idea what to ask for it.

Buying & Selling on eBay

Price: $19.95

The problem is the ring is old and possibly hand made and the diamond has a defect on one side under one of four prongs.

The defect doesn’t affect the stability of the mounting but under a 10x loop the “chip” is noticeable.

It does have a makers mark, a uppercase U with a stylized arrow running thought the center of the U. And also an infinity loop next to the U.

If you could just give me an idea considering the diamond is flawed. I would really appreciate it.

Answer: G’day Guyna and many thanks for your query.

Firstly I cannot legally advise you on an item I cannot see, feel, measure or test, so I can only suggest you do a comparison shop and see what others are selling items for on eBay or similar.

The so called ‘chip’ is a worry as while diamond can cleave (which is rare) it doesn’t tend to look like a chip?

The Hallmarks mean nothing as there is no central registry of Makers Marks anyway, because jewelers can stamp their goods with anything they want, so unless they become famous (or commercial) like say ‘Tiffany’ they can stamp them with whatever suits their business - especially if the item was Handmade.

The first advice I would give you is to get a full gemological appraisal done with a written Certificate to prove it is - what you think it is. No good selling something and having problems later.

This will cost, but put it down to “doing business”.
