Pocket Watches And Their Value?
Pocket Watches And Their Value Question: hi sir my name is Chris and a collector starting out in pocket watches find them to be a beauty.
Pocket Watch Handbook
Price: $19.99
I was wondering does it effect the value on a piece if it is repaired.
Lets say the mechanical parts like springs etc if the movement is not working.
I wish to sell in the auction markets what can you suggest
Sincere regards
Chris
Answer: G’day Chris and many thanks for your query.
You might be asking the wrong person here as we are NOT watchmakers. However as a Jewelry Valuer, I can tell you that a broken watch is NOT going to be valued at the same price as a working one. That’s just logical.
If the watch had been repaired and is now in working order - then the repair would not make any difference to the value. It is considered ‘As good as new’.
The only other consideration is the metal the pocket watch is made from. ie: Gold or Silver, as even in a broken watch - the gold still has value - all be it a Scrap Value, unless the watch is a particular collectors item, in which case it will have a higher value.
It’s all a subjective thing really.
You might also like to add this query to my Jewelry Forum at http://www.online-jewelry-appraisals.net/jewelry-forum/ as other may have had a similar problem.
Can’t hurt anyway and who knows what answers you may get.
Hope this helps…
